COMBS AND BRUSHES: HOW TO CHOOSE YOURS

From untangling the strands to finishing the hairstyle, brushes and combs have an apparently simple function, but they are great allies for the beauty and health of hair. This is because if chosen in the wrong way, they can cause damage to the locks, from dryness and the appearance (or increase) of frizz, to breaking or even the pulling (!) Of threads. Write down the tips for you and your daughter! To know more, check out: comb and brushes

Your ideal comb

The combs that best adapt to all types of hair are those with wide teeth and non-conductive material, such as wood or bone. This comb model, in addition to facilitating the untangling and combing of the strands, prevents them from breaking.

The right brush for every hair type

The choice of brushes should take into account two factors: your hair type and the result you want to achieve. Brushes with bristles in two heights and bubbles at the ends are better for thicker and curly hair. For fine hair, brushes with bristles at a single height and no balls at the ends are better. Straight brushes can be used to dry the threads, while the round ones shape them.

And when it's time to clean …

To maintain the health of the hair and scalp, it is also essential to sanitize combs and brushes. This is because pollution residues, sweat and other dirt accumulate in these utensils with each use. In addition, the fact that they stay in the bathroom (humid environment), favors the proliferation of fungi and bacteria, which will end up being brought to the hair with their use.

Good day-to-day practices!

The “good practices” for the use of combs and brushes starts on a daily basis, removing after each use the threads that may have stuck to them. And every six months, these accessories must undergo a more "deep" cleaning in order to remove accumulated residues. The combs must first be washed with water and mild soap. Then they should be soaked for about 30 minutes in a mixture of warm water and three tablespoons of baking soda (so that traces of fat and other dirt come off). If they are plastic, they should be submerged for 30 minutes in a solution with a liter of water and a tablespoon of bleach for disinfection.

In the brushes, start this cleaning by carefully removing (with the help of a comb) the strands attached to their bristles. Then, mix warm water and mild soap (or children's shampoo) and, with the help of a soft sponge, wash the entire brush well. If the brush is heavily impregnated, soak it for 30 minutes in water and neutral shampoo. Rinse under running water, remove excess water and allow to dry naturally in a ventilated place, protected from the sun. Remember that it must be completely dry before using it again.

When to renew your brushes and combs

Brushes and combs must be replaced annually. An indication that the life of your brush is coming to an end is when the balls at the ends of the bristles start to come off. And it is always worth mentioning that when noticing any change in the hair or scalp, the dermatologist / trichologist should be consulted.
